Breakthrough T1D

Breakthrough T1D is a leading global nonprofit organization dedicated to research, advocacy, and support for people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). Formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the group has over 50 years of history driving progress in T1D science, from early work that helped make continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and automated insulin delivery standard tools to funding cutting-edge research aimed at preventing, treating, and curing the disease. Today, Breakthrough T1D invests in promising research around the world, works with governments and regulatory agencies to influence policy and improve access to care, and supports community education and awareness efforts that improve everyday life for people living with T1D.

Breakthrough T1D raises funds through donations, community events, corporate partnerships, and advocacy efforts, then allocates those funds to accelerate breakthroughs in research and therapy development. In recent years, the organization has directed hundreds of millions of dollars toward global research initiatives and successfully attracted additional public and private investments to expand its impact. A large portion of its funding supports efforts to find cures such as cell therapies, disease-modifying treatments, and early detection strategies—while also advancing technologies and therapies that help make day-to-day management safer and easier. Breakthrough T1D is widely recognized for its financial stewardship and transparency, earning top ratings from independent charity evaluators.
